In my intro I will explain what my theme means, and why I called it beautillity. I did not know what my theme should be because there was not an obvious theme that ran through all my projects, so instead of looking at specifically that physical I also looked at their purpose. I noticed that none of my projects go unused, they are incorporated in to every day life. This is one of the reasons i love ceramics because I love to see my art work be used.
The majority of my projects are cups and bowls, however I have also made some more advanced. I have experienced with some more creative projects, like the teapot and the tall blue glass vase. This was my first semester in advanced ceramics some am still playing around with new techniques. My projects are not refined yet but I hope to get better as I continue in this class.
All of my projects are thrown on the wheel, then dry for one to two days, depending on the size of the projects. Once it is dry enough I carve a foot into it. Some of my projects need handles or other things that need to be attached, like a teapot spout, this all happens on the same day I foot. Then it dries the rest of the way, and I put it in the bisk, it is in there for two days. When it comes out it is harder, I wash it and put it in my locker over night to dry. The next day I glaze it. My glazes are usually more than one color, or it has other characteristics and has a simple glaze. If it has more than one color I glaze one half of it and put it on the shelf to dry then I glaze the other end. Before I put it on the glaze shelf I wipe off the bottom so that it does not run onto the glaze shelf while it is getting fired. Once it is out of the glaze kiln it is finished!
